Friends of Richmond Animal Care & Control is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to provide resources to the City of Richmond Animal Care & Control Division that will result in increased adoptions and will improve the quality of life of pets in its care and in the Greater Richmond community.

Recent projects funded by Friends of Richmond Animal Care and Control

  • A face-lift for the front of the shelter, including a new coat of paint and an awning, to increase visibility and promote adoptions

  • New beds for all the dogs to increase their comfort and well-being

  • Ongoing urgent and emergency medical care for seriously injured and ill animals to improve their health and increase their chances of adoption

  • New computer software to improve animal management systems and streamline the adoption process

  • Digital camera for photographing all pets in Richmond AC&C’s care

  • A complete remodeling of the cat room to improve disease-resistance and comfort level and modernize the environment

  • A renovation of the puppy room to improve the puppies’ health and well-being and brighten their surroundings

  • Landscaping the dog play yard to increase the dogs’ access to shade and water and make it more inviting for visiting adopters

  • Securing ongoing tech support and maintenance for the new computer software

  • Funding a contract with a trainer to work with animals in Richmond AC&C’s care in order to increase adoptability
